| Is Blake Sheldon Homophobic??? Posted: 05 May 2011 11:20 AM PDT All signs point to "yes" after the disturbing thing he tweeted out last night….and then "no" from his follow-up tweet this morning. Blake Sheldon, who is gaining some notoriety as one of the coaches on The Voice, took to his Twitter last night in what we can only assume was an attempt to be funny. He sent out this message to his followers, claiming to be reworking the lyrics to Shania Twain's song, Any Man of Mine. He wrote:
Now, we consider that to be pretty unnecessarily violent and entirely inappropriate, but did he mean it as a homophobic jab? That's the real question. After we got over our initial fury, we read further on his Twitter and saw that this morning, he responded to those who thought his comments were hateful. He insisted that he had no problems with the gay community and even clarified that the reworked lyrics were still supposed to be coming from a "girl's point of view." Okay, well, that's…still not a very nice message to send out, but better than then the alternative, we guess. Still, we think he should've taken people's concern a little more seriously than he did. This was his initial response to the criticism:
Again we ask, necessary? Can't you see where people would get the wrong idea for your initial tweet, especially in a time when violence against gays is such a huge issue? You could stand to be a little more respectful of the community you claim to have no problem with when people of that same community take offense to your 140 character remarks. Or don't. Whatever. | President Obama Pays Tribute To 9/11 Victims At Ground Zero Posted: 05 May 2011 11:10 AM PDT The President of the United States made a stop in NYC to pay tribute to those who lost their lives during the terrible tragedy on 9/11. He laid a wreath at the site of the World Trade Center, and at the foot of the Survivor Tree, which sustained damage during the attack but survived after being cleared of rubble. Obama spoke to those who attended:
He also visited a firehouse that lost 15 men that day. The highest number of one firehouse. He was joined by the brave who luckily survived. The President visited in the wake of the successful operation that put an end to Osama Bin Laden — to pay his respects after such a long hunt, and a milestone achievement that has been a symbol of our effort to honor the lost by finding those responsible. Everyone lost in the past decade will always, truly, be missed. Our hearts continually go out to those who have experienced the loss first hand. [Image via AP Images.] |

| Daytime Drama! Could Katie Couric Bring About The End Of General Hospital?!?! Posted: 05 May 2011 10:20 AM PDT Please don't do it, Katie! This move could mark the end of soap operas as we know it! Back in April, we were sad to hear that All My Children will be gone forever in September, and One Life to Live will say goodbye in January. Now, we've learned that Katie Couric MAY be signing a $20 million deal with ABC for a one-hour daytime talk show that would air in General Hospital's timeslot! Nooooooo!!!!!!! If the deal goes through, Katie's show would start up in September. No word as to whether or not GH would be canceled or put into another time slot, but unfortunately we're NOT optimistic for the show if that happens. Look, Katie…we understand you're looking for new opportunities now that you've parted ways with CBS Evening News, but soap operas are an extremely endangered species. Think about it. If you spare GH, you could be a HERO to lots and lots of devoted fans! Enrique Iglesias will sing songs about you! LOLz. Would U like to see a Katie Couric daytime talk show on ABC? We hinted that they might be a few days ago! It looks like The cool thing is that it'll be Kate's first time here in the States, along with the couple's first official visit here as well. Yesterday, Jesse James sat down with Howard Stern on his Sirius talk show to talk about, what else, cheating on Sandra Bullock and his upcoming marriage to Kat Von D. True to form, Jesse took the opportunity to put Sandra through the ringer, again, and had a good two minute conversation about his sex life with Sandra versus his with Kat. According to Jesse, Kat's "one hundred percent" more, shall we say, talented in the bedroom than Sandra. Calling her a "vixen", Jesse says that he and Kat are "connected on a whole different level" (which may in fact be an innuendo for something, we don't know) and added that if she ever did cheat on him as he did to Sandra, he " would forgive her and still love her." Yeah? Let's put that to test, shall we? Cheat on him, Kat. Do it before the wedding. If he loves you THAT much, we can't imagine his heart being able to stand that kind of betrayal, no matter what he says. So go ahead, girl - play him like that! See how he likes it! | Contestant Comes Out To Father Before Singing On The Voice! Posted: 05 May 2011 09:40 AM PDT So inspirational! We are so proud of you, Tyler Robinson, for having the courage not only to share your beautiful voice with the nation, but also having the courage to express that you're gay and proud to be, and to finally let your father know! It might be a stretch from how you described him, but we HOPE that he has been accepting of this news since you dropped it on him. If anything, he has to be proud of you for your singing now that you landed a spot on Blake Shelton's team!! Watch the video above to see Tyler be absolutely transparent about himself in the package before his audition! It's so touching!! And then, even though we're getting tired of hearing the song, he comes out and does a great job with Train's Soul Sister and earns his place on Shelton's team! Good luck in the competition Tyler, and we hope your courage has and will continue to inspire others! PS: The Voice has FOUR openly gay contestants! Wonderful! |
